PASS Consulting Combines Offshore Brainpower and SOA-Based Software Factory for Successful Project Solutions

Miami Beach, December 8th, 2008 - International & Offshore project management powered by state-of-the-art MDA and SOA software development tools of PASS Consulting Group (www.pass-travel.com) for the accomplishment of projects on time, in quality and in budget.

International PASS Consulting Group developed a new concept for development around the globe. A panel of four software engineers develops customized software in the Miami Beach location of PASS. They are part of a project team that furthermore consists of business analysts, architects, the project lead and a few developers in Germany, where the company’s Headquarters is located.

Due to state-of-the-art technology and the use of latest software development approaches, like model driven architecture MDA, this work model shows the modern way of software development. The PASS Virtual Software Factory (Learn more about our PASS VSF featured in our latest release.) enables the joint development of several individuals on one project from different locations. Highly automated processes, standardization and the modular structure of the software factory ensure the productivity and quality of its developments. The PASS VSF generates almost 80% of the code lines automatically. Up-to-date software fundamentals and architecture, like service oriented architecture SOA and business rules (BR) approach, are both integrated in every new software product and solution of PASS.

The project started with a training week in Miami, where the project lead, technical and business specialists from Germany and the local staff first met to setup the project. The PASS development tools were introduced to the local staff along with the objectives of the project. Today daily coordination phone meetings between the business analysts and the development team ensure immediate solutions to challenges which lead to accomplishments on time, in budget and in quality. The first delivery to the customer has already been made. The project is about sophisticated processes in the context of the European Union – a pretty complicated set of rules and regulations, which need IT support to avoid any mistake. Interestingly enough, although none of the developers in Miami speak German, the whole website is in German. “Close collaboration and state-of-the-art methods and tools for Requirements Management are the key” says Stefan Luckhaus, Project Manager of this eGovernment project. Project kick-off has been in July this year and project duration is estimated until November 2008.

“Initially we created this idea out of the incredible US Dollar/Euro exchange rate. Most of our development has always been primarily carried out in Germany.  The US-Dollar exchange rates in the beginning of this year caused concerns in the Miami office if “importing” software from Germany is the right way to proceed. On the other side the German group could have had ten times more projects in 2007 which could not be staffed. The idea of turning it around and use US developers to develop software which is exported to European countries was born. PASS also has a branch in India, but the difference to outsourcing to India is the quality of developers, communication, and identification with the company. We are very happy about how things are proceeding – in Germany, in India, and in the US” says Michael Strauss, CEO of PASS Consulting Corporation. His colleagues first joked if now the “US is the new India for Europe” - but Michael responded that according to the Forbes Magazine today half of the richest 8 billionaires come from India. Thus he does not mind copying a business model that pays off.
